In a cut-throat industry where child artists rarely cement their place as adult actors, Soham Chakraborty somehow managed to carve a niche for himself after starting his career as a child artist (Master Bittu) and impressed critics and audiences alike.

However, no one can deny the actor owes his commercial success much to a number of remakes like

'Faande Poriya Boga Kaande Re'

(2011), 'Amanush 2' (2015), 'Shudhu Tomari Jonyo' (2015), 'Bangali Babu English Mem' (2014) and 'Loveria' (2013).

Ahead of the release of another of his commercial films ‘Piya Re’, Soham insists commercial films still have a key role to play in Bengali cinema, “It’s a fact that Bengali industry is going through a tough time. Now Kolkata audience loves to see films from Shinoprosad Mukherjee, Srijit Mukherji, Kaushik Ganguly. But I believe the industry still depends a lot on commercial films. Just cross the second Hooghly bridge, you would understand parallel cinema doesn’t rule the market there. Actually, it’s difficult to predict which films would be accepted by the audience. The trend changes time to time. For instance, ‘Amar Aponjon’ failed at the box office but when ‘Jio Pagla’ was premiered on television, the audience loved it,” the actor stated.
