It���������s been 15 years since Ranjit Mallick was visible on the small screen. And now, he is back again on the idiot box and this time around, it���������s for Sandip Chowdhury���������s Jugantar.
Ask Mallick why he took a hiatus from television and he says, ���������I have done television when serials like Datta, Grihadaha and Sesh Proshno were made. Offers did come my way but I got too busy with movies.Moreover, nothing came my way that was extremely exciting. But Jugantar has a subject that is extremely thought-provoking. It deals with how our value system has changed from the pre-Independence to the post-Indepence period. I play a school master, Sukumar, who never compromises with his values.���������
Chowdhury is excited to have got Mallick on board. ���������We don���������t share a professional relationship. Dada has worked with my father (Anjan Chowdhury) and he is like a father figure for me on the sets. I couldn���������t have found another mature actor to play this part.���������
Executive producer Sukumar Chatterjee says, ���������We haven���������t cast Ranjit Mallick because of his popularity on the big screen.
The character demanded an actor of his maturity. We���������ve cast all newcomers in the serial. Dipankar De is also a part of the cast.���������While Jugantar is keeping Mallick busy, he is also playing Raveena Tandon���������s guide in Raja Sen���������s Laboratory. As a parting shot, Mallick says, ���������I am cutting down on my work. Doing serials is a different experience and I must admit that I am enjoying it.���������
