Samanta won awards for Best Director and Editor respectively at a film festival in Punjab recently for short film Agomonir Obogahon. Theatre personality Gulshanara Khatun has acted in the film that also features Himika Patra, Abhijit Roy, Priyanka Samadder and others.

“The film was highly appreciated after the first screening. After audience demand, the organisers had to hold a second screening on the same day. On the last day of the festival, the film was screened again for special guests,” Abhijit told us. The film delves into the life of a boatman, Sujan. The story shows village life. “Sujan and Sondhya, his wife, live in a village. Sujan’s life revolves around his daughter, Uma. He works hard the whole day so that he can offer a good life to his daughter. The film focuses on the destiny of Uma,” the director revealed. The music and the background score is composed by Hia Joardar.

Meanwhile, Gulshanara, who plays Sandhya, said she had great fun shooting with the team. “We shot somewhere near the

. The local people helped us immensely. We shot in mud and slime and the villagers kept on warning us about the high tide,” she said. Gulshanara also enjoyed working with the DOP, Himu Himaloy, who came from

Bangladesh

for this project. “I have never worked with anyone from Bangladesh before. It was amazing working with Himu. He is great fun,” he signed off.
