Madras Cafe
Role I play a Jaffna commander Maliya who gets shot by the LTTE. Shoojitda saw me at a party, tapped me on the shoulder and said, Dadul, you need to do a small role for me. By then, Vicky Donor had released and I was quite excited.
1x1 polls
All he asked me for was a portfolio shot with Gandhi specs. After a month, he sent me tickets to Cochin. There, a unit member told me that the first two actors signed up for the film were John (Abraham) and I!
Memorable moment We were shooting on the riverbed in Cochin. The roads were at least 100-150 ft above sea level and all our cars were parked there. Suddenly, crew members started waving and shouting at us. An elephant herd came out of the forests, went past our cars, landed on the river bed, walked through us, drank water and left.
Sheer Shoojit He is extremely supportive. After every shot, he would say, Brilliant. That helped us push the envelope. It was great sharing screen space with Siddhartha Basu and John. Also, Shoojitda has a Bengali crew, so it felt like home.
Tasher Desh
Role
I play King a warrior prince who comes in a dream sequence. In flashback, I have two queens fighting over me! The day Q came to my office, he fell on the stairs and ended up with a hairline fracture. The next day, he was supposed to leave for Delhi to receive the National Award. He couldnt go, but I still managed to bag the role!

Memorable moment In one scene, the two queens, who are sword-fighting over me, are also supposed to seduce me one wearing green and the other wearing purple grapes! Q had cameras all around and I kept pleading with him not to shoot the scene from a wrong angle. I was worried about things going terribly wrong on the family front!
Q quotient He is quite cool. Though Im yet to watch Gandu, Id heard so much about the film that I really wanted to work with him. During the shoot, he didnt use big cameras. His crew, which had many foreigners, had small 7D cameras all around. Qs technique is very different. His is no ordinary adaptation of Tagore.
