This year the Times Food and Nightlife Awards got bigger and brighter, with thousands voting in an online poll on www.timescity.com to choose the winners
There is no sincerer love than the love of food, said director
Shoojit Sircar, taking a leaf out of George Bernard Shaw. And we couldnt agree more. For Wednesday evening was about fun, frolic, camaraderie, laughter...
but above all, about food. In a starry gathering, Shoojit joined actor
Prosenjit Chatterjee to unveil the Times Food Guide Kolkata 2014 and kick off the Times Food and Nightlife Awards. And what an evening it was! The launch of the guide, authored by gourmand Salmoli Mukerji, saw the best in the food and beverage industry being honoured. On the menu were not just the scrumptious delicacies of the award-winning restaurants, but also moments that would be hard to match in a long time to come. Emcee Mir made sure that he left the audience with aching jaws, as he opened with the promise of his own political party a counterpart of AAP. His version, though, would be called CHAAP! Mir explained, If theres AAP in Delhi, theres always
chaap (tension) in Bengal. Bengalis know it very well! Amidst the roar of laughter, he added that his party was all about Aam Aadmi and Special Aurat. And his party symbol? The dustpan! Kejriwal might sweep away all the dirt with his broom but someone has to collect it, he chuckled. The award ceremony saw 24 food destina tions bag the prizes in 18 categories. But as the guests mingled and shared the joy and love of food, there was no heartburn. With a delicious spread to suit all palates, everyone went home a winner!
