Shiboprosad's Alik Sukh is inspired by his father's demise

It surely seems, Shiboprosad Mukherjee���s favourite author is Suchitra Bhattacharya. After adapting the writer���s Icche successfully on celluloid, the director is all set to project Bhattacharya���s novelAlik Sukh on the big screen.
Shiboprosad and Nandita Roy���s film by the same name, produced by Atanu Raychaudhuri, revolves around a well-known gynaecologist, Dr Kingshuk Guha (Debshankar Haldar), who is torn between his professional and personal commitments.���A single incident brings doom in Kingshuk���s life. But the dilemma he faces is something most doctors have confronted,��� informed Shiboprosad.
Although the film is based on a novel, it was Shiboprosad���s father���s demise on April 15, 1994, that prompted him to direct this film. ���It was Poila Baishak and my father suddenly complained of chest pain. I rushed him to a para doctor and he asked us to shift Baba to a hospital immediately as he had suffered a heart attack. I called an ambulance and took him to a hospital only to find that there were no attendants or doctors around as it was Poila Boishak! The few junior doctors present there couldn���t do anything. When I finally got hold of a doctor, he was leaving for the day. He told me since it was a festive day, the hospital was low on staff and he couldn't help us. My father breathed his last that night. Whether it was family obligations or something else that was going through the doctor���s mind, is a question that still haunts me as I lost my father for it,��� said Shiboprosad.
Speaking about the film, he added, ���Kingshuk is faced with such a dilemma ���he gets a call for a medical emergency when he was out buying a luxury apartment for his wife on their anniversary. Whether he responds to his professional or personal commitments and its repercussions is what the film is about.���
