Shiboprosad Mukherjee on Posto's success

Bengali audiences are often left wondering, what makes Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy's films click with the masses. The answer, director Shiboprosad says, is simple. "They can relate to it," he says. Post delivering hat-trick hits, all running for more than 100 days, the director got chatting with us about what really works in his favour.

When we got in touch with Shiboprosad, he said, "The idea is to make relatable movies. It's very important that the audience relates to your film. The stories should tug at people's heartstrings. We have tried doing that with all our movies. Be it a film on school admission (Ramdhanu, 2014), a couple's 50 years of marriage breaking up (

Belaseshe

, 2015), former lovers (

Praktan

, 2016) or one that deals with the custody of a little child (

Posto

, 2017)."

Where does he get the inspiration from, we ask him. "I believe, we must weave stories out of daily happenings around us. Happenings that make us think. And those are the stories that click with a large section of audiences. They want to watch stories that feel personal — ones they can take something away from," he added.

On Posto completing 100 glorious days at the box office, the elated director said, "It's a proud moment. It feels great to know that the audiences have accepted us in such a way. Nandita di (Roy) and I are immensely grateful to them. As filmmakers, we depend a lot on repeat audiences. For a film to run for 100 days, it needs a handsome footfall. It's because of their support that our films do well."

Posto, that has been the biggest Tollywood blockbuster so far this year, is slated to release in Bangladesh on September 22.
