Director Sayan Basu Chowdhury whose last film ‘Horror Stories’ earned critical acclaim is ready with his next and this time it is a heartwarming relationship drama. Featuring child artist Ayanna Chatterjee, Partha Datta and Payel Chatterjee, the film ‘Bhalobasha Not Out’ is a love story of Anu and Rohan.

It all starts when Anu, a single mother, meets Rohan through an online dating app. The story moves on as Anu, her daughter and Rohan work out on how to bond and form an unlikely family against all odds. The story is set in the troubled time of subsequent lockdowns due to the pandemic. They are now stuck together while a completely unexpected crisis comes knocking on the door and they have to face it as a family. What happens next forms the crux of the story.

According to the director, the most interesting part is the emotional angle between a single mother and her daughter which appealed to him the most. The mother has to face the emotional crisis and at the same time stay strong to work things out. ‘Bhalobasha Not Out’ also has a different perspective that tries to break a taboo. Sayan says he wants the audience to relate to the mother’s character and her emotional state to understand the gravity of the struggles a woman has to face in our society.

The relationship-in-crisis sub-genre is a tricky one, especially when making a film that explores the complexities of human psyche. In recent years, Tollywood has kept on focusing on the problems modern couples face. Films like ‘Ahaa Re’, ‘Praktan’ or ‘X=Prem’ have explore the crisis in relationships giving a completely different perception. Telling the story of a struggling relationship in an original way, that’s the trend now and Sayan’s film is the latest addition to the list.
