Satyajit Ray’s Tarini Khuro travels to Busan!

Ever since the film was announced it made every Satyajit Ray fan excited and why not? ‘The Storyteller’, directed by Anant Mahadevan, is based on a short story by the auteur and more interestingly it brings his iconic fictional character Tarini Khuro to life on the big screen. Starring powerhouse actors Paresh Rawal, Adil Hussain, Tannishtha Chatterjee, and Revathi, the much-awaited film will now have its world premiere in the competition section of the prestigious Busan International Film Festival.

‘The Storyteller’ narrates the story of a wealthy businessman who appoints a storyteller in order to escape from his insomnia. It soon becomes more intriguing as new twists are added to it. The original Bengali short story ‘Golpo Boliye Tarini Khuro’ is the famous one from the series of stories written by Satyajit Ray. In the story about originality versus plagiarism, Ray comes up with a larger question: "What is more important – the story or the storyteller?" The enigmatic character of Tarini Khuro has achieved a cult status over the years and it continues to enthrall every Bengali out there.
Director Anant Mahadevan has already said that this film is my tribute to the legend Satyajit Ray and he is honoured to see ‘The Storyteller’ competing in Busan. He has said that it is an amalgamation of wit, drama, and even suspense, the film is an attempt to bring Ray to a generation that has only heard about him or been occasionally exposed to his collection.
The 27th Busan International Film Festival will start from October 5 and will run till October 14.
