NEW DELHI: Celebrated films like
Satyajit Ray's Apur Sansar, Rituparno Ghosh's Dahan and Utpalendu Chakraborty's Chokh will be screened at a regional film festival to be held in the capital from Nov 26'28.
The festival, organised by the Sahitya Kala Parishad in association with department of art, culture and languages, government of Delhi, will be held at Siri Fort Auditorium 2.
Entry to the festival is through passes available at Sahitya Kala Parishad, Dilli Haat INA and Shri Ram Centre, Mandi House.
'We noticed Delhi having festivals only for Hindi and English cinema. This alienated people belonging to other regions. In order to bring those people closer to cinema we've planned this festival,' says J P Singh, assistant secretary, Sahitya Kala Parishad.
Singh further states that the festival will be a monthly event henceforth. Three regional films will be screened at the same venue every month.
While Ray's Apur Sansar takes one through a sensitive journey of a Bengali child Apu to adulthood in the early 20th century Indian subcontinent, Ghosh's Dahan (Crossfire 1997) is an award-winning Bengali feature film based on Suchitra Bhattacharya's story of the same name. Chakraborty's Chokh (1983) is a courageous attempt at exposing the contemporary realities having social relevance.
The iconic films are a rare opportunity for the discerning cinema aficionado to revisit times of Ray's sensitivity and Ghosh's eye for detail.
