After making films like ‘Black Coffee’, ‘Atwaja’, ‘Biplab Aaj o Kaal’, director
Atanu Bose is all set for his dream project on the life of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. Titled ‘
Achena Uttam
’, the biopic will see Saswata Chatterjee as
Uttam Kumar while Tirtharaj Bose will be seen as the young Uttam Kumar.
Rituparna Sengupta has been roped in to play
Suchitra Sen.
The rest of the cast includes
Srabanti Chatterjee as Gouri Debi,
Ditipriya Roy as Sabitri Chatterjee, Sayantani Ray Chaudhuri as Sumitra Mukherjee, Sneha Das as young Gouri Debi, Biswanath Basu as Tarun Kumar, Arindol Bagchi as Salil Dutta and Anubhav Kanjilal as Uttam Kumar’s son Goutam among others.
The film will show Uttam Kumar’s childhood, the ups and downs of the star’s career and many unknown facets of his life. Atanu Bose whose favorite genre is relationship drama took his time since his last release ‘Atwaja’ to announce this film as it involved a lot of research. When asked about the film he said: “Uttam Kumar is an emotion that has to be done with much care.” Kolkata and North Bengal will have a significant role to play in the film.
“Playing difficult characters is definitely challenging but playing the Mahanayak is not only difficult but one can’t prepare himself for such roles as no preparation is enough for these kinds of roles.”
‘Achena Uttam’ will go on floors in April this year. The research and development have been done by Sibasish Bandhyopadhyay, while the cinematography is being handled by Supriyo Dutta. The music is being composed and recreated by Upali.
