After 'Kalkokkho' (House of Time), director duo Rajdeep Paul and
Sarmistha Maiti all geared up for their next ‘Mon Potongo’ which will soon start its festival journey.
National award-winning actor
Seema Biswas,
Joy Sengupta, debutants Subhankar Mohanta and Baishakhi Roy, Amit Saha, Tannistha Biswas, Janardan Ghosh, Tribikram Ghosh, Anindita Ghosh, Anindo Roy and others are playing pivotal roles in the film.
Interestingly, many real life pavement dwellers and street children will also be seen as an important part of the cast. The first look of the characters are already out and it’s intriguing to say the least.
While speaking about the film, the director duo said, “Mon Potongo (Mindflies) is absolutely different from Kalkokkho (House of Time). Kalkokkho is much morbid as a film while Mindflies deals with life, colorful aspects that celebrate life above all. Monpotongo (Mindflies) is an ode to the flight of desire - amoral, relentless, unrestrained. It’s a tale of soaring desire which you are not even supposed to dream of within the brackets of your social identity but you still dare to pursue. The film is a celebration of that desire - maddening, destroying and yet liberating. It is about flying, dying and returning from the ashes like a Phoenix.”
The films narrates the story of a madly-in-love inter-faith couple run away from the village fearing persecution and finds shelter on the open pavements of the city streets. As they get accustomed to the harsh life on the streets their minds are enchanted by a throne like “Seat of Power” inside an exquisite furniture showroom which they want to gift to and and share with each other as a token of their love. The ambitious couple doesn’t want to be like insects that crawl and get crushed on the roads. They want to climb up the social ladder so that they can attain their desired “seat of power”. Their obsession to attain that seat leads them through the tempting by-lanes of wealth, intellectuality and power and meet a cast of colourful characters. What happens next forms the crux of the story.
While speaking about the film’s producer
Anjan Bose said, "We have already finished the post production of the film and it is all set for its festival journey. Though the film's language is Bengali, as per my understanding of cinema I will surely consider ‘Mindflies’ an international film. I strongly believe that the audience will love the film globally. We are focusing on the festival journey first and at the end of this year we are looking forward to a big screen release.”
