Santu Mukhopadhyay was a fantastic singer: Satrajit Sen
Satrajit Sen who was closely associated with Santu Mukhopadhyay and his family can’t believe that the actor is no more. Santu Mukhopadhyay who was known for his works in films such as Sansar Simante and Bhalobasa Bhalobasa died of cardiac arrest at his south Kolkata residence on Wednesday at around 7.30 pm after a prolonged illness. “I have been going to their house quite regularly and shared a very personal relationship with Santu kaku. His sense of humour was always on point and he would regale us with anecdotes from his shooting diaries whenever we met. Santu kaku was very fond of the caramel custard which is served at a club in south Kolkata where we had regular sessions of addas over the years. Sometimes when he was not able to attend our adda sessions due to shooting commitments we have had to pack a portion of the custard on his command!,” said Satrajit. He added, “All of us know that he was a fantastic singer and I wanted to get him and Swastika Mukherjee to cut an album. I had to coax him for days to do so because he was adamant that post his wife passing away, he had stopped singing. One day I went to his house and finally made him agree to this. Once giving his nod, he was like a child about to be given a new toy — such was the enthusiasm and starting from the scratch recordings to how the songs would be arranged, he was involved in every sphere of the making of this album titled Amar Mukti Aaloy Aaloy.
We even shot a video at Sreerampore with the father-daughter duo featuring in it, on the title track. Will always cherish the memories of the time spent with him and remember Santu kaku as a tall handsome man with a booming voice and terrific sense of humour.”
