‘Sanjhbati’: Reasons to watch the relationship drama

Leena Gangopadhyay and Saibal Banerjee’s next ‘Sanjhbati’ which releases this Friday (December 20) has already made the movie lovers buzzing about the film. Be it the ensemble casting or the touching storyline, the social drama promises to redefine relationship. Take a look at these key points before you watch the film.

2/7

Dev and Paoli yet again

Interestingly, Dev had earlier worked with Paoli Dam in Ravi Kinagi’s 2007 film ‘I love you’ where Paoli played his sister. And then the second time they teamed up for Kamaleswar Mukherjee’s ‘Password’ which released this Puja. Dev is excited to share the screen with Paoli once again.

3/7

Dev-Soumitra Chatterjee for the first time

Only a few people know Dev was in talks with Atanu Raychaudhuri, the producer of newly announced film ‘Sanjhbati’, for the last four years and finally Atanu convinced the Bengali superstar to become a part of his project. However, Dev had only one condition before he said yes. He asked Atanu Raychaudhuri to convince Soumitra Chatterjee to come on board and Atanu was more than happy to inform Dev that the living legend of Bengali cinema has already said yes.

4/7

An ensemble cast

‘Sanjhbati’ grabbed the headlines instantly when its cast was announced and why not? It’s an ensemble one. Firstly, Dev and Soumitra Chatterjee are sharing the screen for the first time and secondly, two acting powerhouses Paoli Dam and Arpita Chatterjee as the female leads – everyone was excited to hear more about the project. However, Arpita Chatterjee later announced she is no longer a part of the film because the role she has been offered doesn’t look convincing to her. Sohini Sengupta replaced her in the film.

5/7

Paoli’s second film with Leena-Saibal after ‘Maati’

"The story of the film is so interesting that I took only a second to give my nod after hearing the script. My character in Saanjhbati too is very interesting. Working with Leena di and Saibalda is enriching as I get to learn so much from them. I am working with Dev again after ‘Password’ and he is indeed a brilliant co-actor," Paoli said revealing how she came on board for ‘Sanjhbati’.

6/7

Dev in an unusual role

‘Sanjhbati’ sees relationship from a completely different angle. Dev will play the character of a suburban young man who comes to the city and meets a young girl played by Paoli in unusual circumstances. Leena Gangopadhyay was apparently not convinced of casting Dev in a simple down to earth character like Chadu. But with sere dedication and sincerity the Tollywood hunk come out of his superstar image winning everyone’s heart as Chandu.

7/7

Touching story

The film narrates the story of Sulekha, a lonely elderly woman facing difficulties with her loneliness and crankiness. It will be interesting to see Dev playing such a realistic, down to earth character which the directors assure will surprise the audience.
