Samik Roy Choudhury’s film ‘Mushroom’ is all set for its premiere at the prestigious 23rd New York Indian Film Festival this May. The thriller set in the hills has been winning awards at festivals like Berlin Indie Film Festival, Milan Gold Awards, and Swedish International Film Festival to name a few.

This year’s New York Indian Film Festival, scheduled to be held from 11 to 14th of May, will showcase 35 excellent narrative features, documentary and short films of various genres from across the Indian diaspora. The 23rd edition of NYIFF has films like 'Three of Us', 'Gulmohar', and 'Goldfish' among others. 'Mushroom' is one of the two Bengali films that received official selection at the festival.


The thriller stars Pintu Chatterjee, Samik Roy Choudhury himself, Tathagato Mukherjee, Sreya Bhattacharyya, Poonam Gurung, Samriddha Ganguly and Baishali Bagchi in key roles.

'Mushroom' revolves around a murder mystery, which eventually turns into a psychological thriller. It all starts with a murder in the hills. A man in his 30s, Palash(Samik), gets killed while on his trip to a homestay in the hills with his wife, Prutyusha(Sreya). The next morning, Binod Ranjan Mukherjee(Pintu Chatterjee), a high police official, appears on the scene, determined to solve the case. He is being assisted by the local sub-inspector, Amoljot Adhikari (Tathagato Mukherjee), in charge of the case. The story takes an interesting turn with multiple number of interrogations, several unanswered questions that take the audience through a psychological rollercoaster revealing disturbing facts which turns the climax of the story upside down.


Written by Samik himself, the thriller’s DOP is Prosenjit Koley while the music has been scored by Tamal Kanti Halder.
