Samik Roychowdhury completes shoot of his short film

Filmmaker

Samik Roychowdhury

has just completed the shoot of his short film, which features

Mir

and Devlina Kumar. The 15-minute film,

Okiagari

, features Mir as a junior lawyer, who mostly handles cases related to domestic violence. Devlina is playing the character of a young mother, who becomes a victim of domestic violence. The film is set in the ’80s and the location and the costumes have been chosen accordingly. “In the film, Mir will be seen as a very serious character and we loved shooting with him,” Samik said.
Though Samik didn’t disclose much about the story, he said it is based on the Indian judiciary system, and how it is inclined towards women in many ways. This effectively makes the male population suffer from a legal bias. The core concept of the film, however, is based on a Japanese philosophy. “Okiagari-koboshi is a typical Japanese doll similar to the Hit me dolls we knew in our childhood. The Japanese philosophy is derived from these dolls and it says that we have to make right all our mistakes in one lifespan,” he added.

Earlier, when we had spoken to Mir about the film, he had told us that when he heard the story, he was intrigued, not just because it was a good story, but also because it was based on a Japanese philosophy. “The sense of suspense and horror in Japanese films are of different level and that feeling made me say yes to the film,” he had told us.
