Known for his National Award win in 2019 for his documentary, Feluda: 50 Years of Ray's Detective, Sagnik Chatterjee is all excited about his next, Master Anshuman. So, how he got the rights from Satyajit Ray's son and filmmaker Sandip Ray?
"I loved Master Anshuman, which came out around 1986-87. I was a middle school student then. Many years later when I was assisting Babuda (Sandip Ray) in Bombaiyer Bombete (2003), I asked him about this.

I urged him to make this film but he said he wants to stay away from the child-adult relationship story. A few more years later, I wished to film it myself and he said he will keep it aside for me," Sagnik said.
The director feels extremely happy to be able to make the film, the first schedule of which is decided to be April this year. "I have been toying with the idea since long. Once Babuda gave me the rights, there was no looking back. But I faced a couple of setbacks when the people associated with us came with their own baggage. That was hampering the script, which I never allow. Later, we got a good team to work with," he said.
Sandip Ray's encouragement has also made the work more enjoyable for Sagnik who's making his feature film debut after making the National Award-winning Feluda documentary.
