For cine lovers in Bengal, it will be a treat to watch the father-son duo of
Sabyasachi Chakrabarty
and Arjun Chakrabarty play the central characters in Subhrajit Mitra’s black-and-white period film, Avijatrik — The Wanderlust of Apu (the title in English). Speaking to us, Arjun who will play Apu in the film, said, “I will be sharing screen space with my father for the first time on the celluloid. So, that is a huge plus for me. Besides, it is an honour to be a part of such an ambitious project, especially since there is already so much cinematic history attached to Apu and his universe. The script is unlike any other that I have worked on, so far. I am eagerly looking forward to this journey.”
The film will see Sabyasachi as Apu’s globetrotter friend, Arpita Chatterjee as Leela, Sreelekha Mitra as Ranu di, Ditipriya Roy as Aparna, Sohag Sen as Ranu’s elder sister, among many others essaying important roles. Agnimitra Paul will do the costume designing and Bickram Ghosh is said to score the music. “As a film student, I have seen Apu trilogy many times. But I came across the original novel around 10 years back and read it thoroughly. To my astonishment, I found that there are still around 150 pages left in the book describing the journey of the father and the son. I took some time to re-read the pages and the visuals popped up in my mind. I found myself drawn towards the subject,” said Subhrajit.
Moviegoers in Bengal and those around the globe will soon relive the world of Apu — the central character of
Satyajit Ray’s
The Apu Trilogy
based on Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay’s
Pather Panchali
and
Aparajito
. The plot takes off from where the trilogy had ended with Apur Sansar.
