Rwitobroto Mukherjee celebrated a gala
Bhai Phonta with his immediate family and cousins. This much-awaited occasion called for double the grandeur because it took place after a hiatus of three years. “Bhai Phonta is always special and this year it is all the more special because it is taking place after a gap of three years. My cousin, maternal aunt’s daughter, was in Hyderabad for the past three years.
So, we had to give the ritual a miss. Also, she will leave for the US in December and most probably won’t be back for two years atleast. So, we left no stone unturned to make this a big event today,” said Rwitobroto.
The young actor looks forward to Bhai Phonta celebrations every year since his childhood days. Though it’s always not possible to have all his sisters together but he never misses attending this ‘didi’s’ phonta. “My mashi’s daughter whom I call didi and my mama’s daughters are the ones who give me phonta. But my mama stays in Jharkhand, so nowadays every year they can’t make it to Kolkata for the celebrations. Whenever they can, we have a bigger celebration,” Rwitobroto shared.
The tie he shares with this cousin is similar to that of siblings. So, they don’t have a formal give and take of gifts as such. “We didn’t exchange gifts particularly for this occasion but we do buy each other things that we require the most. Since she will be travelling to the US soon, she needed certain essentials which I bought for her and she did the same for me. Our birthdays are close – mine on October 13 and hers on October 26, so this exchange of gifts has been happening since then. Besides, today some trousers were delivered to my address which she had ordered for me. She takes care of my online shopping,” said Rwitobroto, who was treated to rice, dal, five kinds of fries, pomfret and butter chicken at his cousin’s place.
