While speaking about the film’s KIFF selection an emotional Rupanjana who has played one of the leads in it said this recognition is like a Christmas gift for the entire team.

“Kolkata International Film Festival is now among the world’s top 20 film fests and to see our film ‘Ikir Mikir’ in the Bengali Panorama section of the 28th KIFF is really a special feeling. This feels like a Christmas gift at end of the year. It’s a proud moment for the entire team and I should thank our captain of the ship, director Ratool Mukherjee. The way he completed the shoot in just seven days in a calm and composed way, that too during the pandemic, was a still challenge. He’s a great director. Despite making his first feature film he was so organized,” shared the actress.

Recalling the shooting days Rupanjana adds, “We had to keep many things in mind because of the pandemic situation. Also, we had a child actor working with us. So, we took extra precaution. The cast is amazing as well. We had an actor like Rajatava Dutta, Saurav Das also did a great job. I think cine buffs who will come to the 28th KIFF keeping in mind the festival-centric films, that is 9 emotions in 7 days – will love the story of ‘Ikir Mikir’. We tried our level best to deliver a relatable film which will make people think. Now, it’s up to the audience.

The plot of ‘Ikir Mikir’ revolves around a murder investigation of a security guard where two people are the prime suspects. Surasha, a lady in her late 30s living with her only daughter and her husband is stuck in Bangalore due to pandemic, and Ranjan, a man in his late 40s who had lost his wife and daughter in an accident. They have two different versions of the crime - Surasha's and Ranjan's version. But there is a third version, the truth. What happens next forms the crux of the story.

Director Ratool Mukherjee is also excited ahead of the screening, "The contribution of Bengali cinema to the world needs no introduction from me and I respect the Bengali film audience from the bottom of my heart. My association with Kolkata International Film Festival dates back to 2018 when my first attempt as filmmaker, ‘Palok’, was at the Short Film Competition Category and this time I am honoured to know that my debut feature film ‘Ikir Mikir’(Hocus Focus) has been officially selected at the prestigious Bengali Panorama Section. I thank the honourable jury and would request every thriller fan who are fond of brilliant acting performances, to come and watch Ikir Mikir, our Indian Premiere at the Kiff 2022. It was a journey I would cherish all my life and I would take this opportunity to thank everyone associated with the film. We tried to create claustrophobia through the audio visual medium keeping the pandemic at the backdrop. I would request everyone present, to give us a feedback after the screenings."
