There couldn't have been a better birthday treat for Roopa Ganguly even as she began her stint behind the mic on Thursday. The actor, who is making her playback debut in Aditi Roy's 'Abosheshey', landed at a city studio for a live recording of the two Tagore songs that are going to be filmed on her in the film that also has her playing the protagonist. While it's a tough task to record two difficult Tagore songs such as 'Dure kothae' and 'Aji bijonoghore', Roopa was extremely professional in her approach.
While 'Dure kothae' will be filmed on Roopa while she is taking a walk by herself in the hills, 'Aji bijonoghore' will be picturized on Raima Sen and her in a flashback scene in Kolkata. Says
Prabuddha Banerjee, who is the composer of the film, 'Live recordings are always challenging. Both Roopa and I enjoyed every bit of the experience. Roopa is a passionate singer. I'm sure her renditions will do full justice to her character in the movie.
We have an intellectual benefit in the fact that Roopa is also singing the songs that will be picturized on her. Being an actor, she has a certain foresight regarding the final production and application of the song. That's helping in the recording process too.'
Aditi is also happy to have got Roopa as a playback singer on board. 'Roopadi's character likes to sing. She has this habit of humming lines and we had asked Roopadi to sing those lines herself while shooting. It was then that we suddenly hit upon the idea of asking her to sing the two Tagore songs. She was initially apprehensive and then, agreed to our suggestion. It's a happy coincidence that she is making her playback debut on her birthday, on Thursday.'
Meanwhile, Aditi also shot in Roopa's house on Thursday. 'We shot the scene where Ankur Khanna's character, along with Suman Mukhopadhyay's character, comes to Roopa's house. Roopadi was initially present at the shoot and, then, left for the recording. Since it's her birthday, we are waiting to celebrate it with her. Roopadi's ma has prepared payesh and we are waiting for her to return before we can begin partying together,' the director signs off.
