Roopa Ganguly makes a comeback
Those who had been missing her from the small screen, have reasons to rejoice. After a hiatus of around eight years, Roopa Ganguly will be back on television with a bang. The actor has been roped in by director-actor Arindam Ganguly for his next megaserial, Konokanjoli, produced by Prosenjit Chatterjees production house and soon to be aired on a private Bengali channel.

Confirming the news, Roopa said, The thought of being part of a serial makes me paranoid. But this time around, my old friends (Prosenjit and Arindam) literally forced me to give my nod. I had to say yes, as they were not willing to buy my excuses.
Talking of comebacks, director Arindam too is making one of sorts into direction after Neel Simana, which was aired in 2005. So, what took him so long to be behind the camera? I did direct a film, Cholo Potol Tuli, in between, which will hit theatres soon. But otherwise, I am busy acting on both the small screen and stage. There was no time left for direction. So now, when Bumba (Prosenjit), who is my childhood friend, asked me to direct Konokanjoli, I was a little sceptical as I was too pre-occupied with Bamakhepa, where I play a pivotal role. But he assured me that I can do it. And, I must say, that despite Bumbas busy schedule he is always there my by side, helping me in every possible way, informed Arindam, adding, I am happy that both Soumitra Chatterjee and Roopa Ganguly have agreed to be a part of my project. Its not easy to get both of them on board!
Giving an insight into the storyline, the director who has clearly pulled off a casting coup, added, The serial is about a middle class man, essayed by me, who has a shop which sells saris, but, his aim is to revive the dying textile industry, primarily handloom. Roopa plays my sister, who is married into affluence, but doesnt turn her back on her family and helps realize her brothers dreams. The serial conveys the message that girls dont get distanced from their parents, brothers and sisters after marriage. In fact, they are always there as a support system. Bumba suggested that I add this essence to the serial.
While PB Chaki will take over as the DOP of Konokanjoli, music will be scored by Chandan Roy Chowdhury. The cast includes Kheyali Dastidar, Aparajita Auddy, Debashish Haldar, among others. The serial will go on the floors by July 20.
Said PB Chaki about working with Arindam, Hes extremely organized as a director and is super cool on the sets. Working with him is great fun. Roopa, meanwhile, said that shes upbeat about shooting for Anurag Basus Barfee. Speaking about Anurag, she said, Anurag is creative but, at the same time, mad. Its fun to work with him. I did work with him years back for a serial, Love Story, so there is a comfort zone between us. I shot a small part for Barfee and had a blast. I will be leaving soon for the next schedule.

Roopa is also part of Birsa Dasguptas next film where she plays a woman working for a record company. I am looking forward to Birsas film. The script is amazing and the director has dealt with a lot of realities in a comic manner.
A whale of a comeback, what say?
