A few months back, I spotted
Rituparna Sengupta at a wedding, trying to talk to one of the dadas of the industry . As Ritu sat down next to him, he quietly got up to strike a conversation with others. No words were exchanged, but I couldn't help but feel sorry for the lady , whose story of struggle can be a film in itself. But casting aside all the negative publicity, Ritu is back to doing what she does best — movies.
Her diary is more chock-a-block than most. The best part is that she talks about Sujit Mondal's commercial potboiler in the same breath as
Priyanka Chopra's first Bengali production. This year, she has already shot for Baranda, Kiriti and has two films by Suman Ghosh and
Kamaleswar Mukherjee lined up. In between, PC's film, Brishtir Opekkhaye, has come like a cool shower on a summer afternoon. The film was pitched to her by director Bibhash Mukherjee two years back. After the first producer backed out, PC came into the picture and the deal was sealed recently. Ritu, who spoke to the star's mom, Madhu, also got a message from PC, which was a personal invite for her private bash to celebrate the National Award for the Marathi film, Ventilator. Ritu eventually met PC in Mumbai and came back thrilled to bits. It's common knowledge how PC had to struggle hard to make it to where she is today and among those she inspired is also our Ritu. I think behind every successful woman, there is another woman.
