Celebrating 100 years of Bengali cinema,
Arindam Sil is making a tribute film ‘Maya Kumari’ set against the backdrop of 1940s. The film will mark
Rituparna Sengupta’s collaboration with Arindam Sil for the first time.
Produced by Camellia Productions, the plot of the film revolves around Maya kumari (Rituparna) and Kanan Kumar (Abir) who formed a hit pair of 1940’s Bengali cinema. In the peak of her career, Mayakumari takes a sabbatical and her fans and followers start speculating about Maya Kumar’s sudden disappearance. Why did she leave films? The truth is she leaves films to live her life with her husband Sital Bhattacharya (
Rajatava Dutta) far from media and the glamour world. But did she leave her film career because of her first onscreen kiss and the criticism she received from the society? To find these answers, the film’s plot shifts to current times as Soumitra Mallick (Indrasish) decides to make a film on Mayakumari and Kanan.
Abir Chatterjee and Rajatava Dutta will be seen in pivotal roles in the film.
Arunima Ghosh, Sourav Das, Anindita Basu,
Indrasish Roy and others will also be seen in pivotal roles. It’s also a musical film and the lyrics have been written by Suvendu Dasmunsi while the music is by
Bickram Ghosh.
