The Dhak Mahotsav, organized by the Manicktalla Chaltabagan Lohapatty Durga
Puja Committee on Sunday, marked the beginning of the Puja festivities in the city.
Though the venue had to be shifted from the Puja pandal to a five-star property in the eleventh hour owing to incessant rain, the spirit of the guests could not be dampened as they chanted Bolo Durga Mai Ki Jai.
Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi inaugurated the festival in the presence of guests from different fields, including the arts, culture, education, sports, politics, industry and the glamour world. All the guests, including chief guest Prosenjit Chatterjee, then took turns drumming up a beat with the dhaakis. Ladies from the glamour world, shining in their six yards, showed some moves and also tried their hand at dhunuchi naach.
Sundeep Bhutoria, chairman of the Puja committee, said, Our committee believes in promoting culture and tradition. We also do a lot of social work. This time, we are fortunate enough to get the blessings of both the Governor and the Chief Minister. The Governor has inaugurated the Dhak Mahotsav and the Chief Minister will inaugurate the Puja pandal on Thursday. On October 6, we will host a sindoor khela." The Governor said, Durga Puja is special in Bengal, as it combines tradition, folk art and festivities. This is my first Puja as a Governor and I am happy to be a part of it."
