revolves around Sohini, who wants to walk out of her mundane marriage and get married to her husband’s childhood friend. Sohini (Rituparna Sengupta) is unable to adjust with her husband, Bhaskar (Debshankar Haldar), and finds solace in the caring behaviour of Anupam (Kaushik Sen). The day Sohini makes up her mind to inform her husband about her plans to settle with Anupam, Bhaskar is diagnosed with a brain tumour. Thus, Sohini is unable to break the news to Bhaskar and, on the contrary, feels more concerned about his treatment. Will responsibility trump love is something the film will delve into.
This is Agnidev’s seventh film with Rituparna and both of them are known to be good friends outside work too. The duo have delivered several hits together. “It’s not that Ritu and I consciously work towards our friendship both professionally and personally, it just happened. We share a camaraderie that is a notch above friendship. On sets, Ritu has complete faith in me and that makes me more responsible as a director. Besides, she’s a very spontaneous artiste and can switch on and off
regardless of her mental condition,” said Agnidev, adding, “While shooting for Gaheen Hriday, she was simultaneously shooting for two other films and was facing some ups and downs in her personal life too. But it’s incredible that nothing of that showed once she was in character. Her performance in this film is the most consistent among all the seven films that I’ve done with her.”
Rituparna, on her part, said, “Agni and I share a tremendous level of trust, both professionally and on a personal level. But we also have a lot of fights, which I think is normal in any relationship. At times,

gives too much importance to petty issues, which leads to misunderstandings between us.” Does Agnidev have any tip for Rituparna, we asked. “Ritu should manage her time better and choose her films wisely. She can’t do every film that comes her way and can’t be everywhere at the same time. Other than that she is a superb actress and should take up films that do justice to her talent,” replied the director.
Gaheen Hriday, produced by Macneill Engineering Ltd, releases today.
