Resul Pookutty and Shafqat Amanat Ali to score music for film together

Not only has Subhadro Choudhury roped in the singer to score for Raag: Darbari Kannada, he has also approached Resul Pookutty to do the sound designing
In a first, Shafqat Amanat Ali is set to compose for a Bengali film. The Pakistani singer and former Fuzon lead vocalist, who had earlier rendered two songs in Chaturanga, will score for Clerk maker Subhadro Choudhury���s Raag: Darbari Kannada.The film might also see Oscar-winning sound wizard Resul Pookutty working in a Bengali venture for the first time.
The movie revolves around a female classical singer. Not into public performances, she trains young musicians. But given the current competition in the field of music and with the craze for talent hunts eating into the classical space, the vocalist lives under the constant fear of losing students. Says Satrajit Sen, who is putting the project together, ���Music plays a very important role. That���s the reason why we approached Shafqat. He is a brilliant singer himself and this will be his first Bengali film as a composer. He has already composed a song for the movie. Shafqat is coming down in February and he will officially sign up for the film on that visit.���
Subhadro, Resul, and DoP Sudip Chatterjee ��� batchmates in Film and Television Institute of India, Pune ��� are also expected to join hands for this project. Says Resul, ���I���m clued into Subhadro���s work and he also takes keen interest in what I do. We���ve had a talk about this film. I���m always there when my batchmates need me. Three of us are also great Ritwik Ghatak fans and like music in Komal Gandhar played an important role, here too it���s no different.��� On a lighter note, he adds, ���The only condition that I have with Subhadro is that he has to take a bath every day. Generally, he doesn���t. But being shabby is not that cool.��� Recently, when Resul worked with Buddhadeb Dasgupta on Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer Anwar Ka Ajab Kissa, he had said that more interesting projects from the state are welcome. ���Here���s hoping we get to do the film,��� he tells us.
Swastika Mukherjee has been approached to play the classical singer in the movie. Though she is yet to sign on the dotted lines, she is excited about the venture, ���There are many shades to the singer; why she doesn���t perform publicly is also shrouded in mystery. I���ve had an initial talk with the director. Let���s see what happens.��� Elena Kazan, who was part of Bollywood film Prague, is set to essay the role of a foreigner in the flick ��� the script and story are both by Subhadro himself. Samrat Chakrabarti will be playing the male lead in the film, which goes on the floors mid-year.
