The response to

Rainbow Jelly

has floored its maker, Soukarya Ghosal. After Pendulum and TV film Loadshedding, Rainbow Jelly, a children’s film revolving around food, is the maker’s third venture. The movie stars Kaushik Sen, Sreelekha Mitra, Shantilal Mukherjee and child actor Mahabrata Basu.
A food fantasy film with a child protagonist has not been attempted before in Bengali cinema. Being a special child, the protagonist drops out of school and starts living with his uncle. The uncle, a difficult man, makes him slog it out all day. Despite all his efforts, the child gets rebuked by his uncle; in those times, he resorts to fantasy — he believes there’s a hidden treasure somewhere, just that he doesn’t know how to find it. Then, one day, a woman comes into his life. Called Pori pishi, the woman gives out a secret — if the child’s uncle can be fed food of seven colours, he will transform into a different person. Each food is associated with a different colour and taste. So there’s everything from sweet, salty, bitter, astringent, sour, spicy and acrid. Though she prepares the food, she makes sure the uncle believes that they are made by the child. And every time, he has a dish he changes a bit. Finally, Pori pishi prepares a rainbow jelly for the child and life is never the same for him again.
While Alok Maity has been roped in as the cinematographer, Arghyakamal Mitra is the film’s editor. Nabarun Bose is scoring the film’s music. Said Soukarya, “Nabarun is a very close associate of Anupam Roy, who told me he has really liked the trailer.
