Ray's restored films screened at a Kolkata festival to celebrate the movie maverick

On Satyajit Ray’s birth centenary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has undertook keen initiatives to pay tribute to the legendary filmmaker. Films Division’s

National Museum of Indian Cinema

in collaboration with Indian Museum, Ministry of Culture, Kolkata, organised a three-day film festival at the museum’s auditorium in Kolkata to celebrate his films.

Agantuk

, Creative Artists of India – Satyajit Ray (directed by BD Garga),

Sonar Kella

, Jalsaghar, Nemai Ghosh – A Ray of Light (directed by Anirban Mitra & Tirtho Dasgupta) Ghare Baire, Hirak Rajar Deshe,

Ganashatru

, Music of Satyajit Ray (directed by Utpalendu Chakraborty), Seemabadha and Pather Panchali. "We have restored, especially in terms of colour correction, all the Satyajit Ray films. They have been in quite a bad shape off late. Now, whoever watches them will see the difference. These film reels project clear and bright prints on screen," said

Exponents Debashish Mukhopadhyay and Siladitya Sen were felicitated.
The programme in Mumbai saw the presence of eminent personalities such as Shyam Benegal, Barun Chanda, Anik Dutta and Shantanu Moitra. The panel discussion was streamed live on NFDC’s official Facebook page for all audiences, especially the cinephiles and aficionados of Ray’s work.
