Ram Kamal Mukherjee seems to be ready to take the big leap with his magnum opus ‘Binodini Dasi: Ekti Natir Upakhyan’, a biopic based on the life of the iconic Bengali theatre actress Notee Binodini.
According industry sources, the director recently met one of Bollywood's leading VFX producer Rajeev Kumar Rastogi along with his producer Aritra Das in Mumbai suburbs to discuss the Visual Effects for his next.

"They have been working on the subject for almost a year and now planning to recreate 17th Century Bengal that would be a visual delight for Indian audience," says the source.
The makers are planning to create a visual treat for the audience. They are in talks with a leading prosthetic makeup team from Bollywood to achieve a certain look for characters like Girish Chandra Ghosh and Ramkrishna Paramhansa. Considering Ram Kamal's proximity with all leading fashion designers in Bollywood, he might opt for someone from Mumbai. Tight lipped about the project, the makers are yet to divulge any details regarding the film.

The source added, "They are looking at a team of over 300 people working simultaneously on the special effect and story board of the film." Rajeev Kumar Rastogi is the magic man behind recent hits like ‘Manikarnika’, ‘Rangoon’, ‘Fitoor’, ‘Haider’ and currently working on Aushtosh Gwariker's ‘Panipat’. Rajeev has been working in various languages, including Hollywood.
When questioned about the recent development producer Aritra Das said, "It's too early to talk about Binodini Dasi, we are currently busy with the release of Season's Greetings and shooting two Hindi films in Mumbai." We hear the makers have approached some of the biggest names in Bengali film industry for the biopic. The film is likely to reunite the ‘Cakewalk’ duo Ram Kamal and Abhra Chakraborty, as the later would be penning the screenplay for Mukherjee.

Incidentally Pradeep Sarkar is also planning to make a film on the similar subject in Hindi, while Dinen Gupta made a Bengali film with Debasree Roy in 1994, and in early 1980 Suchitra Sen and Rajesh Khanna were to act in a Hindi film ‘Nati Binodini’ but it was shelved after Suchitra decided to quit.
Theatre actress Bina Dasgupta has played the role of Binodini in a popular play Nati Binodini, while Seema Biswas has played Binodini in Hindi and English play in National School of Drama. In television Hema Malini was the first to play the role of Notee Binodini which was aired on Doordarshan in late 1980s.
