Rajlakshmi O Srikanta’s poster launched

The poster of Pradipta Bhattacharya’s much anticipated project, Rajlakshmi O Srikanta, was released on Independence Day. The cast and crew members were present on the occasion. Ritwick Chakraborty, who is playing the iconic character of Srikanta created by

Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay

, Rahul Banerjee, who is playing Hukumchand, and Bangladeshi actress Jyotika Jyoti as Rajlokkhi were also seen at the do.
While the film is based on this particular story from the novel Srikanta, there has been a number of films on the story, including Rajlakshmi O Srikanta in 1958, Indranath Srikanta-o-Annadadidi in 1959 and

Iti Srikanta

in 2004.
Talking about the film, Pradipta said that despite being a huge fan of the original novel by Chatterjee, this film is an experimental approach. For instance, in the original story, there was no character named Hukumchand and it has been introduced by the director himself. In the original novel, Srikanta has a friend, who is not that important, but in this film, the friend has a key role to play. Besides, Indranath’s character has been altered to a large extent. Also, Srikanta’s character is about a dreamer who prefers to be flattered. Rajlokkhi is a courtesan, whose life is filled with hardships. Explaining the reason for these alterations, Pradipto said that the times have changed, so adequate changes in the storyline was also needed.
