Raja Ram Mukherji

’s short film ‘

Beti

’ is winning hearts earning accolades for its hard hitting subject. The recently released shortie speaks for women empowerment and a woman’s basic right to live. It also raises awareness about the burning issue of female foeticide that’s still a reality in rural India. Beside Neetu Chandra in the lead, the short film also has a group of well known actors like

Aditi Singh

,

Shalini Arora

,

Vishal Lalwani

, Dr. Mukesh Hariawala, and Chandralekha Mukherjee.

The story weaves around Reema who is married to a backward, orthodox Gujarati family who constantly forces her to have a son. But when Reema gives birth to a baby girl their expectations are crushed. Their disappointment eventually leads to distasteful events which leaves Reema into a trauma.

Neetu Chandra who plays the lead role in this short film comes to Reema’s rescue as she tries to lead her life as an independent, fearless woman. Beti in a way shows how much a woman can sacrifice and if needed she is ready to fight back to gain the respect and her right to live.

The film has already been nominated at some prestigious film events like the Red Wood Film Festival, Directors Circle Festival of Shorts (United States), Bioscope global film festival, London International Motion Pictures Awards and Independent Online Film Festival (United States) among others this year.
