Rafiath Rashid Mithila is all excited about her Tollywood debut with Raajorshee De’s film ‘Mayaa’, inspired by William Shakespeare's ‘Macbeth’. The Bangladeshi actor and social activist plays the alter ego of Lady Macbeth in it.
“My character leads a minority group and at the same time, her personal life is troubled with struggle and oppression. It’s a strong, challenging role with a lot of dark shades and layers," shares Mithila who will be seen in three different time frames - an adolescent 17-18-year-old girl, a woman in early 30s, and a woman in early 50s.

According to her, the most challenging part was prepping for the elderly age dimension. "I had to keep in mind the different look, attire and body language for each time frame. Be it the voiceover or conveying dialogues – everything was a bit tricky," adds Mithila, the wife of director Srijit Mukherji.

The powerful actor also claims she used to transform into her role even before her shoot helped her a lot. “I have added my own inputs to make the character more realistic and relatable. There were some scenes where I inserted some specific attributes and it suited the character and age perfectly. I still remember after delivering a critical scene, the director and DOP were so happy with my shot,” she said.

Speaking about the concept of ‘Mayaa’, Mithila says, “This film is not an exact retelling of Macbeth. Instead, it is a refreshing modern-day take from Lady Macbeth's perspective. Those who haven’t read the popular tragedy might look into this film as an empowering story of a feminist leader.”
Besides Rafiath Rashid Mithila, the film also features Gaurav Chakrabarty, Rahul Banerjee, Tnusree Chakraborty, Kamaleswar Mukherjee, Gourab Chatterjee, Koneenica Banerjee, Ronita Das, Devlina Kumar, Sudiptaa Chakraborty, and others in pivotal roles.
