Raakhee Gulzar, the actress who hails from Bengal and rose to fame as a leading lady in Hindi cinema, is set to make a grand return to Bengali films after 21 years. She stars in
Aamar Boss, directed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee.
While Raakhee Gulzar has always been rooted in her Bengali heritage, she’s also known for her refined palate and love for diverse cuisines. After the filming of
Aamar Boss, she introduced Shiboprosad to one of her favourite Cantonese delicacies — Cheung Fun, a soft, steamed rice roll typically filled with chicken or prawns.
“I usually stick to simple rice and chicken dishes when I go to Chinese restaurants. But Raakhee di has a remarkable taste in food — I’ve shared many memorable gastronomic experiences with her during the making of this film. She scolds me like a mother at times, and obviously, when I took her to an Oriental restaurant on Peri Road in Mumbai, I let her order. That’s when she introduced me to Cheung Fun. I’ve had various dim sum before, but this was a first — and it was absolutely delicious,” recalled Shiboprosad.
Curious about her Bengali food preferences, we asked Shiboprosad what Raakhee di enjoys most. “She loves small whole fish, and also dishes like
mocha (banana blossom) and
lau (bottle gourd). She eats in small portions, but is very particular about the way food is prepared. For her, it's all about the finesse — the taste has to be just right to impress her.”
Shiboprosad, who also plays her son in
Aamar Boss, describes the film as a heartwarming journey of a mother-son relationship, but with an unusual storyline.
