Pyaasa on the big screen

It was both produced and directed by Guru Dutt
Movie buffs are in for a treat. On Thursday, Cinepolis, Acropolis Mall, will screen Guru Dutt’s Pyaasa. The prospect of watching the classic on the big screen is making many smile from ear to ear. Said actress Gargee Roychowdhury, “When I was into television, there would be a lot of literary adaptations. I always felt that they helped the young generation learn a lot about our history. Not many read books and the audio-visual medium is usually a huge draw. It’s the same with films. It’s important to watch both

and

Margarita With A Straw

. As far as

Pyaasa

is concerned, it’s a very important film in the history of Indian cinema. I feel everyone who hasn’t seen it, must watch it.”

Pyaasa (1957) is about a poet, who struggles to carve a niche for himself in the post-independence era and the bonding he shares with a sex worker. It was both produced and directed by Guru Dutt. Meanwhile Cinepolis is running it as a one-time experiment to provide alternative content to movie goers on a dull week.
