Protiqe Mojoomdar to pen down song for B'wood film

The Bong brigade seems to be going great guns in B-Town. After ���I Am Kalam���, director Nila Madhab Panda is ready with his next, ���Jalpari The Desert Mermaid���. And the theme song ��� ���The mermaid song��� ��� has been penned by yet another Bengali, adman-turned-lyricist Protiqe Mojoomdar.
Says Protiqe, ���The song defines the soul of the movie. It���s about a girl���s quest for water.The idea behind the song was to capture the pathos of a girl who has never seen water, but dreams of becoming a mermaid.��� The theme song, which goes like ���Neeli neeli, geeli geeli si duniya thi mere khwabon ki/ Aadhi khuli, ghuli ghuli si duniya thi mere khwabon ki..��� also conveys a social message.
Nila Madhab explains, ���The film is much more than just a girl���s fantasy and the lyrics needed to go much deeper. There���s a social message and I must admit that Protique has done a wonderful job.���
Composed by Midival Punditz, the song has been sung by Subha Mudgal. The alaap has been rendered by Azam Ali of the Persian band Niyaz. Giving an insight into the storyline, Protiqe adds, ���A girl (Lehar Khan), who goes back to her native village during her vacations, gets embroiled in the greatest adventure of her life along with her kid brother.���
Having received a standing ovation at Cannes 2012, the film will now be part of Asia Pac Screen Awards, where it has been selected in the competition section. ���The song hopes to touch the hearts of all those who stand up against female foeticide or gender inequality,��� says Protiqe.
