Bengali pop queen Jojo is taking the road she has walked most to tell the world her life story. She has recorded her autobiography and is soon coming out with a 40-minute album.
Primarily a dramatized narrative, the album, according to Jojo, is the story of an artiste who remains positive about life and work despite having to pass through thick walls of negativity.
Though primarily an autobiography, the narrative is centred around a woman Jhilik who ventures into the entertainment industry only to face negativity and criticism just like I did, Jojo said. Its also aimed at sending a message to the young artistes who lose heart very quickly when faced with the ups and downs of the industry. The story aims to give them hope, and the strength to keep pushing ahead, however big the hurdles might seem. If they keep going, nothing can stop them from being successful, she added.
On being asked what spurred her to create the album, the singer said she had faced a lot in life, especially on the emotional front. I come from a broken family and had to go through a lot of emotional trauma as a result. Moreover, despite being the daughter of a celebrity, I faced a lot when I started out in the industry. At the time when I began performing professionally, most singers used to be pretty stiff on stage. Their body language was boring; there was no energy in their performance. But I came and started actually performing while singing. There was now energy on stage. This really irked my seniors and I had to face a lot of criticism, she said.
I also had to face several problems on the personal front as a wife, as a mother All this forms an integral part of the album. Its my life straight from the heart. Im just using another name, Jhilik, to make the narrative interesting, Jojo said.
The singer added that she would be releasing the album shortly. It is, however, expected to find a niche audience, as mostly people who know me personally would actually be interested in hearing my life story. I plan to come out with a second part later for wider distribution, she said.
On being asked if the album could, in any way, adversely impact her career, Jojo said, Thats unlikely, as Ive told a story without accusing or naming anyone. The album has a very positive approach, and I dont think it would be taken in any other way.
