Actor Pijush Ganguly succumbed to his injuries early on Sunday morning at the Belle Vue Clinic where he was admited since October 20 when his car collided with a bus at Santragachhi. He suffered multiple fractures on his leg and arm, apart from his ribs. The actor underwent a surgery on his right leg on October 21 at the Belle Vue Clinic. He was due for another surgery on his right arm, but it could not be done as Ganguly's condition started deteriorating on Saturday morning.
Doctors at Belle Vue said his blood pressure dropped sharply and his liver function was affected. He was put on a ventilator as Ganguly had a severe breathing discomfort due to his fractured ribs. "His abdomen started swelling and he was slipping into unconsciousness. These eventually led to a multi-organ failure early on Sunday morning.
He passed away at 2.45 am," said one of the attending doctors. Ganguly was being treated by a team of doctors led by Tapan Sarkar. The actor's body was taken to the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem on Sunday morning. At 12.45 pm, his remains were taken to his Behala home and from there to the Technicians' Studio at Tollygunge. His last rites were performed at the Keoratala crematorium on Sunday evening.
