The first look of Parno Mittra as Sunetra Sundaram is finally out as the film ‘Susu’ goes on floors from today.
Directed by Shib Ram Sharma, it’s a film that speaks on a pressing issue. “The story of how a simple girl from Bardhaman battles this inconvenience of controlling pee, often against her own body, how she lands her dream job, and eventually dream man, and in the journey that she undertakes she makes friends, stands up for inherent female right to have proper bathrooms in local trains, in railway stations, on road, in offices because this is a very basic necessity that is massively lacking, almost like our birthright.
Like oxygen, one needs to pee, and the place must be clean and safe, especially for girls. The cause needs to be addressed,” shared Parno while giving a peek into the main theme of this film.
Parno also adds that we have seen films addressing issues like women’s period in 'PadMan' or 'Toilet Ek Prem Katha' but this is the first time an Indian film is being made on this particular issue and it also feels good to see a male filmmaker has taken the initiative to address such a serious issue.
When asked if she has faced this inconvenience of controlling pee when outside the actress admits she too has faced similar problem on many occasions, “Yes, I have also suffered, It’s like a regular problem for even actresses like me. Be it outdoor shoot, or the macha shows in rural areas this situation is really uncomfortable for us.”
Speaking about the importance of making a film like ‘Susu’, director Shiv Ram Sharma shares, “I have seen my wife in such trouble many times. The cheap toilet was so dirty that the wife did not go there. He became seriously ill. I think such problems should be highlighted more.”
The film also stars Somraj and
Rupanjana Mitra in key roles.
