‘Parineeta’: Five reasons to watch this tragic love story

Raj Chakraborty is always effective with emotional love stories and once again he is back to narrate another tragic love story with his next ‘Parineeta’ which releases on September 6. This is the first time we would get to see Subhashree Ganguly and Ritwick Chakraborty sharing the screen. Sounds exciting? Well, ahead of its grand theatrical release we take a close look at the five reasons why this film has garnered a lot of attraction.

Subhashree's portrayal of Mehul key to success

Playing a multi-layered character is not a cakewalk and Subhashree Ganguly felt it right away the moment she started prepping for ‘Parineeta’, her first film post marriage, that too under the direction of husband Raj Chakraborty.

Subahsree will be seen playing the character of Mehul opposite Ritwick Chakraborty and the romantic thriller, as said by Raj, has explored a different side of Subhashree. So, how the preparation started? Was there any workshop? The pretty actress reveals she used to see a lot of plays.

“I was looking forward to a different kind of film. Finally ‘Parineeta’ came and the journey has become so special to me. I play a layered character Mehul here and to prepare for this character I even did several workshops with Sohini Sengupta. I used to see a lot of plays, even attended Nandikar’s rehearsals and observe how things are done there. I tried to understand the basics. That’s how preparation for ‘Parineeta’ began. To slip into the character you have to feel it and I enjoyed the process,” said an excited Subhashree.

The unusual fresh pairing

Tollywood will see a fresh pair in Ritwick and Subhashree. Ritwick is undoubtedly one of the most bankable actors in Bengali cinema now and his choice of films is always superlative. So you can expect another noteworthy performance from the versatile actors. Plus, the on-screen chemistry between the new pair looked good in the trailer and video songs. ‘Parineeta’ can be a career-defining character for Subhashree. She is looking very different from her regular glamorous avatar. Here she is playing a simple looking girl next door sharing good chemistry with Ritwick. It will be interesting to see whether the audience will accept the unusual pairing.

4/6

Raj’s direction

Unlike most of Raj’s earlier movies, this is not a remake, it has been made on an original story written by the duo Priyanka Poddar and Arnab Bhowmick. Padmanabha Dasgupta has written the screenplay and dialogues for the film. Raj has assured from now on he will work on concepts which are a bit different and others will avoid. “Parineeta is a very different kind of love story that all of us will be able to relate to,” says a confident Raj.

5/6

Touching storyline

The film is a romance-mystery-drama. Mehul (Subhashree) who is in Class XII has a soft corner for her tutor Babaida (Ritwick). He is Mehul’s first crush. Babai is a simple guy who is helpful. Often Mehul stares at Babaida’s home from her window. However, Babai sees Mehul only as a student helping her out in studies. But Mehul is playful, tomboyish. On the day of Holi, Babai asks Mehul to come to his home as he has a surprise for Mehul.

However, something unexpected happens and it changes Mehul’s life forever. The restless girl becomes much more responsible. The story follows Mehul’s journey after that and how she grows up. Raj has tried to explore different chapters of Mehul’s life.

6/6

After ‘Chirodini Tumi J Amar’ another tragic love story

Sad romantic movies are one of those rare genres that you have to be in the right mood for. A bad sad movie will end up just making you feel depressed. A good one, on the other hand, will remain in your heart and give you a newfound appreciation for love. Raj had made his directorial debut with ‘Chirodini Tumi J Amar’ way back in 2010 and it was a runaway hit. After nine long years here comes another tragic love story from the same director. So, it will be interesting to see how people react to it this time around.
