Three years ago Saibal Mitra delivered a masterpiece with his critically acclaimed ‘

Chitrokar

’ inspired by the lives of Indian painter Binod Bihari Mukherjee and American painter Mark Rothko. Surprisingly Bengali cinema hasn’t explored the life of painters, especially stories revolving around the tension between artistic endeavor and commercial reality. Now, young filmmaker Satyajit Das is set for his directorial debut with ‘

“The entire film depicts darkness and also finds out a way to eliminate it. The story follows a young painter Emmanuel who has an exceptional quality. Despite being born-blind, he uses the canvas to express his inner feelings drawing inspiration from what he hears. It’s like a ray of light comes out from darkness. However, following a shocking turn of events his life changes forever. What happens next forms the crux of the film,” said the young director while giving a peek into the storyline.

The cast of ‘Paintings In The Dark’ includes a bunch of talented stage actors such as Rashed Rahaman,

Sayanti Chattoraj

, Surojit Chowdhury and others.

Satyajit wants to send his film to international film festivals like Cannes before its theatrical release.
