Paayel Sarkar’s next ‘
Kulpi
’ revolves around the stigma associated with
dwarfism
and how an educated young man suffering from achondroplasia faces the challenges to be with his love interest.
Directed by
Barshali Chatterjee, the social satire will introduce actor
Protyay Ghosh in the titular role as Kulpi. The plot sheds light on the prevalent discrimination faced by people who are seen differently in our society and go through severe mental pressure. Kulpi also features Sabitri Chatterjee, Chumki Chowdhury, and Biswanath Basu in key roles.
Recently the film’s music was launched in presence of the cast and crew. ‘Kulpi’ has five songs and the music has been composed by Shree Pritam, Shovan Ganguly, and Supratip Bhattacharya. Debojyoti Mishra has composed a special background score for the film. “The songs of 'Kulpi' are both peppy and soulful which synchronizes well with the theme of the movie," said the director.
Sharing her views on the film, Barshali Chatterjee had earlier told ETimes, “Kulpi explores serious issues that can dismantle our social structure. It’s a tale of myriad emotions. The narrative not only highlights the struggles of a person but shows us how self-conviction and belief can overcome any obstacle.”
The plot revolves around Kuldip Roychowdhury aka Kulpi and his relationship with his father played by Rajatava Dutta. Exploring the personal lives and desires of these so-called abnormal and ostracised people, Paayel Sarkar has been cast against Protyay as his love-interest Kankona. How Kulpi comes out victorious against the impediments thrown at him by the antagonist Hilton Braganza is the crux of the story.
