Indraneil Sengupta turned down Banshiwala because the director had insisted on having two smooching scenes.Anjan Das film, Banshiwala, is all set for release on November 19. The film has got a U/A certification and the reasons are the two smooching scenes between
Shayan Munshi and Paoli. Incidentally, these two kisses are also the reason why Indraneil Sengupta didnt agree to doing this film.
If the director is to be believed, Indraneil had really wanted to do this film.
He has done a very good job with Bedeni. He had come home. A copy of Banshiwala was kept on my table. During the course of our conversation, I told him that I would be adapting this story. He requested me to lend him the copy so that he could read it. After reading the book, he said hed love to do the role provided I agree to chop those two scenes. His wife, Barkha, he said, wouldnt appreciate if he shot those scenes. But I couldnt oblige since these two scenes are quite important for the movie. Meanwhile, I had already begun my conversation with Shayan regarding this movie. So, Shayan came on board. However, Banshiwala isnt a movie on lust.
So, wasnt it difficult to have Indraneil do Bedeni with Rituparna Sengupta, considering that the film explores the emotion of lust? I could have explored lust more aesthetically had Indraneil not have such reservations. Indraneil is a fine actor and very disciplined. If only he didnt have these reservations, Tollywood directors could have explored a lot more complicated emotions in films with him as the protagonist. If he is fine with Barkha doing an item number in Dui Prithibi, I wonder why he has such reservations about shooting smooching scenes. But then, to each his own, Das says.
Shayan, on his part, was very sporting about shooting such scenes. He had no reservations. Lookwise too, Shayan fits the role of a London-returned guy well. Paoli had requested for a days time to think about doing such scenes. When she learnt that the scenes were mandatory, she agreed to shoot them without creating any fuss, the director signs off.
