Eminent photographer Nemai Ghosh, who documented work and life of
Satyajit Ray, breathed his last on Wednesday at his residence in Kolkata. He was 86. Ghosh is survived by wife Sibani, son Satyaki and daughter Sharmistha. His wife and his brother were there at the time of his demise, while his son, who lives in Mumbai could not travel to Kolkata due to the nationwide lockdown.
Nemai Ghosh started working with Ray during Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne in 1969 and continued till Agantuk in 1991. Besides capturing iconic impressions of legendary actors like Utpal Dutt,
Sharmila Tagore and
Smita Patil, Nemai Ghosh was best known as a noted chronicler of Bengal’s theatre history. He also ventured his cameraworks extensively in documenting tribal life across India.
