Neha Panda is ready to make a swift transition from a stylist into playing one of the leads in Mainak Bhaumik’s ‘Maach Mishti & More’One look at her and she’s like any other spunky 20-something. But there’s something about Neha Panda that guarantees a second look. Maybe, it’s that quirky haircut or her kitschy sense of style or her energetic voice that said, “It all started when I was styling Rahul and Priyanka for Mainak Bhaumik’s “Ami Vs Tumi”.
There was a club scene, where I was made a part of the crowd. I had to converse with Biswanath. I guess, that was the ‘moment’ that found me!”
Neha is cast opposite Anubrata in the movie that also stars Raima Sen, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Swastika Mukherjee, Shauvik and Rachita. So, does the presence of established stars in the film make her nervous? “Quite the contrary,” said Neha, adding, “I have high hopes from myself! My character in the movie is quite similar to what I am in real life. I am an Oriya, born and brought up in Rajasthan and came to Kolkata to study fashion designing. Mainak wanted someone who couldn’t speak and didn’t look Bengali.
It also helped that there’s a certain comfort level within the unit. Our mental levels match. We are all young out there.” Neha is also a professional stylist with a degree in fashion designing. “Apart from Rahul and Priyanka, I have styled Paoli in “Alor Thikana”. But I am most excited to style Raima in “MM&M”, where she plays a Reiki and yoga enthusiast. I have given her a Bohemian look with dreadlocks and made her wear a lot of zouaves, skirts and maxis.”
One more thing she’s also excited about is her pairing with Anubrata. “I have styled him in “Bedroom”. We are good friends and look cool together,” she said. Neha defines her sense of style as being able to carry off anything that looks ‘odd’. “I believe in lots of layering. The kitsch element is present in my sense of style. The first thing that I do after buying clothes is, I rip them apart! Thus, you’ll find loads of torn tees and slacks in my wardrobe,” she said, signing off.
