Narayanan Gooptu's debut as a singer
Kolkata saw the beginning of another musical journey with the launch of "Sei Je Amar Nana Ronger Dinguli" by Mr Naranarayan Gooptu at the Bengal Club today. Veteran Film Director Shri Mrinal Sen launched this Rabindra Sangeet album. Shri Justice Chittotosh Mukherjee was also present at the event. The album starts with an invocation from the Upanishads, 'Tamiswaranang'. It is followed by twelve Rabindra Sangeets and a popular Bengali song, originally sung by Satya Chaudhuri in 1945. The album also has two foreign songs - a Russian song originally sung by Paul Robson and a Polish folk song which Mr Gupta learnt in his student life."I am a music lover, I sing for the pleasure I derive out of singing. My debut album at the age of 80 is a result of my love for the universal language of music", said Mr Naranarayan Gooptu. With 52 years of professional experience as a Barrister and 15 years as the Advocate General for the State Of West Bengal, Mr Gooptu did not have sufficient time to cultivate his love for music but with encouragement from his family and friends and under the guidance of Ms Maitreyee Sen, he decided to record this album.
"The songs are beautifully sung and more importantly sung from the heart. It is a joy to see Mr Gooptu realize his long harboured dream." said shri Mrinal Sen."The songs are an expression of nostalgia. The songs are learnt during my student days in London and also while travelling in Europe", added Mr Gooptu.
