The 65th National Film Awards was announced by the jury headed by renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur. The 10-member-panel comprises screenwriter Imtiaz Hussain, lyricist Mehboob, actress Gautami Tadimalla and Kannada director P. Sheshadri among others. Kaushik Ganguly's Nagar Kirtan has fetched four awards this year.

The transgender love story by Kaushik Ganguly starring Ritwik Chakraborty, Riddhi Sen and Manabi Bandopadhyay fetched Special Jury Award, Best Costume (Gobindo Mondol), Best Makeup Artist (Ram Rajak) and Best Actor ( Riddhi Sen) at the National Film Awards.

Kaushik Ganguly, in an interview ith us, had once that the film is one his best films so far. The Best Bngali Film Award went to Mayurakshi starring Soumitra Chatterjee and Prosenjit Chatterjee. The film narrates an emotional tale of a 84 year old father (played by Soumitra Chatterjee) suffering from age-related neurological problems including dementia and cognitive dysfunction. His middle-aged son Aryanil (played by Prosenjit) visits him, an intimately sensitive man going through an unsettling phase in his personal life.
