Music, masti and more at music awards

Ours is a city known for its love of the arts, and on Friday evening, glitz and glamour marked the music Oscars of the city, the Samsung Rex Mirchi Music Awards Bangla powered by Vivel.
The event, organized by Radio Mirchi was a stupendous success marked by drama, emotions and, of course, soul-stirring music. Anchored by Mir ��� decked up as Narad ��� and June, there was no dearth of laughter.When he handed over his tiny Veena to Tuki, a surprised Tuki remarked, ���But it has no bridge���, to which Mir wisecracked, ���That���s not a problem in our city; bridges disappear all the time here.��� The ceremony took off with a tribute to SD Burman, with Surojit crooning some evergreen hits by Sachin karta. Mir was at it again a while later. ���Tagore knew his Nobel would be whacked. Bhenge mor ghorer chabi niye jabi, he had predicted,��� he said. Anupam walked away with quite a few awards on his birthday. Lopamudra and Joy Sarkar, Dibyendu, Santanu Moitra and Srijato were some of the other awardees. Things heated up with the svelte Puja dancing to popular Tolly tracks and Srabanti shaking a leg. When yesteryear star Madhabi presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Nirmala Misra, it was an emotional moment. ���I have no other God but the audience and this is all thanks to them,��� gushed Nirmala, before singing Ei banglar matite to a standing ovation. Usha Uthup paid a tribute to Bangla bands with classics like Hasnuhana and Halud pakhi. After Kumar Sanu���s performance, it was time for Bumbada to be conferred with Surchitrak Prosenjit. Tolly hunk Jeet copied him on stage, before handing him the award. Trust Mir to have the last word: ���Bah, he can get away mimicking Prosenjit, but if I copy Bappida now, I will be beaten up.���
