Mithun suffers stroke, being treated at Kolkata hospital

Mithun Chakraborty, who is in Kolkata to shoot for a Bengali film, was rushed to the hospital on Saturday morning after he complained of chest pain and uneasiness. The actor has been in the city for Pathikrit Basu’s film Shastri, also starring other Tollywood veterans and younger actors. As per initial reports, the 73-year-old actor, who recently starred in a series of successful films, has suffered a cerebral stroke and is undergoing treatment. A source close to the film unit said, “Dada was supposed to shoot at the Maidan today. But he complained of uneasiness in the morning and was admitted at 9 am. He was accompanied by his co-actor Soham Chakraborty. A board of doctors from neuro medicine, cardiology and other departments have been formed to monitor his condition.” When contacted, Soham said: “A round of tests have been done, we are anxiously waiting for the reports. We have been told he is responding to the treatment so far.”
Mithun Chakraborty was conferred the Padma Bhushan award, India's third-highest civilian honour, on the eve of Republic Day this year.
