Cinematographer Sirsha Ray, who has worked with top-rung filmmakers from both Tollywood and Bollywood, will soon turn director himself. The film is rumoured to be based on a Moti Nandi story. When TOI got in touch with Sirsha, he said, Yes, I am going to direct a film. It will start rolling from November, but its too early to talk about the venture. On being asked if the film is based on Moti Nandis Shibar Fire Asa, Sirsha offered succinctly: No comments.
Buzz doing the rounds is that Srijit
Mukherji too had wanted to make a film on the same story, but the cinematographer maintained that he wasnt aware. For this film about wish fulfilment, Sirsha has approached
Mithun Chakraborty to play a pivotal role. I have approached Mithunda and he has shown interest in doing the film. He has liked the script, but the dates are yet to be worked out. The role is that of a mentor who helps the protagonist realize his dreams. This character can only be essayed by an actor of his stature, said Sirsha, who will also be the films DoP.
But isnt helming two departments direction and cinematography a difficult task? Not at all, he said, adding, I always wanted to get into direction and thought of giving it a shot now. Having worked with many talented directors, I have picked up the nuances well (laughs).
Music of the film will be scored by Indraadip Das Gupta. Indraadip and I had started out around the same time. We have worked on innumerable projects together. I also love his compositions, said Sirsha. The film will go on the floors in November. Ill start the film in November, but the next couple of schedules can only happen next year, as I have to complete the London leg of Sesher Kobita, since Im the DoP of the film. That apart, I have Arindam Des Goyenda Gogol and Anjan Dutts film, he said. The film will be shot entirely in Kolkata.
